Our Favourites We are declaring February to be the month of favourites. Over the next four weeks four different Fun Knits staff members will share their favourite yarns and projects. Hopefully we will inspire you to find your own favourites!
Shelley is Fun Knits' owner and the creative mind behind so many of the free patterns on our website. She is the first to share her favourite. Q: What is your favourite yarn? I love Kauni - both the solid and the multicoloured. EQ is my favourite colour. Q: Why is this your favourite yarn? I love the feel of it. It has a quality about it - it just feels good to knit with and then when the garment is finished and washed it just gets better as the yarn softens so much when it is washed. I also love the smell of Kauni - it is very natural. Q: What have you made with this yarn? I made the Kauni cardigan, a few felted hats, two sweaters, and a skirt and dress for my granddaughter.
Shelley in her felted Kauni hat Q: What else would you like to make out of this yarn? A woven blanket. In fact I am starting one today. I am weaving it with EQ and will blog about it this week. Not sure how it's going to turn out so we can all find out together! Q: What is the perfect project for this yarn?
Kauni is perfect for sweaters and I hope to make more in the future. If it turns out to be perfect for blankets I may make one in every colour, as I can't think of anything cozier than a blanket made with Kauni. Q: Are there any patterns you would recommend for this yarn? The pattern by Mary Tanti, available on our patterns for sale blog, is gorgeous, as are any of the ones by Ruth Sorensen (also on the blog). The free cardigan by Ruth that I knit was a lot of fun and shows the colours perfectly - Kauni Cardigan.
